The Word of the Lord

The Forgotten Child

But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on earth to people he favors!”

Luke 2:10-14 (CSB)

I love Classic Christmas movies.  Something about the nostalgia of times past when joy and peace where something that wasn’t mocked.  There is a line from a classic that goes something like this:

Tonight I want to tell you a story, of an empty stocking. Once upon a midnight clear, there was a child’s cry.  A blazing star hung over His stable, and wise men came with birthday gifts.  We haven’t forgotten that night down the centuries.  We celebrate it with stars on Christmas trees, with the sound of bells, and with gifts.  But especially with gifts.  You give me a book.  I give you a tie.  Aunt Martha always wanted an orange squeezer and uncle Henry could do with a new pipe.  We forget nobody.  No child.  All the stockings are filled, all that is, except one.  And, we even forgot to hang it up.  The stocking for the child born in a manger.  It’s His birthday we are celebrating.  Don’t ever let us forget that.  Let us ask ourselves, what He would wish for most.

What does our God, the Creator and Sustainer of everything want for Christmas?  God desires to have a relationship with you.

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?  Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.  Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.”
John 14:9-11

Today.  Spend a moment with the One that gave everything just for the opportunity to spend all of eternity with you.

Jesus told us the great value of knowing God: Matthew 13:44-46
