The Perfect gift
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.“
Matthew 2:10-11 (ESV)

So much of our modern day celebration around Christmas is the giving of gifts.
We spend enormous amounts of time thinking and searching for that perfect gift. After all, we give these gifts because we love and care about the one we are giving our gift to, right? Do we give these gifts out of love or obligation?
Think about the most precious gift, the perfect gift. It’s probably expensive. It is given without any expectations in return. It brings joy to the giver and the receiver. If this gift is rejected, it will hurt the heart of the giver. The giver still cares for and loves the one whom the gift is for. So what is the perfect gift, and how do we receive it?
God’s gift to you is His only begotten Son. It is the most expensive gift ever.
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:10-14 (ESV)
