Patience
“A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.”
Luke 13:6-9

How patient are we? I’ll admit my patience is not very good. We have heard the phrase, “my patience is running thin”. It’s not easy to be patient. How patient is our Lord. When I think of my own life I find it absolutely amazing the amount of patience the Lord has with me. The nation of Israel after being rescued from Egypt, time and time again turned away from God.
God spoke to Moses saying. “And the LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.” Exodus 32:9
Yet God was so, so patient with His people. It’s part of His nature. When he explained this to Moses in Exodus 34:6-7 one of the qualities of His holy nature is “longsuffering”.
Will God’s patience come to an end? Jesus gave us an example in The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree in Luke chapter 13.
How much time do we have?
Jesus is coming. Are you ready?
Exodus 34:6-7
And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
