The Word of the Lord

Highest Authority
“since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
1 Peter 1:23-25 (ESV)

Why believe the Bible?
Do you believe the Bible because that is how you were raised?
Other people were raised to believe other books they call holy.
The Bible is an eyewitness account. There is no other book that claims authority as the Bible does.
There have been more than 25,000 archaeological digs related to the Bible and yet not 1 single contradiction to the Bible.
Institutions of higher learning consider copies of historic writings as originals such as Aristotle’s poetics, utilizing less than 12 copies written more than 1,000 years after the originals. The writings of Julius Caesar’s gaelic wars have less than a dozen copies dating more than 1,000 years after the originals. Homer’s Iliad, a few hundred copies written more than 2,100 years after his original writings. Yet our higher educational institutions consider all these copies to be accurate as the originals.
Our Biblical copies date back to as early as AD 100-120, with some dates even earlier. We have more than 6,000 copies. There is no other historical writing that is more tested, more scrutinized than the Bible.
The Bible was written by more that 40 different authors from all walks of life, most of whom did not know each other.
“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” 2 Peter 1:16
Hundreds of topics written on 3 different continents in 3 different languages over a period of more than 1500 years and all come together in one redemptive story. The salvation by Jesus.
The Bible gives us more than 300 different prophecies of Jesus’ first coming. All of these prophecies were fulfilled. There are far more prophecies of His return.
“And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts,” 2 Peter 1:19
There is no higher authority than the word of God.
“Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.” Titus 2:15
“I choose to believe the Bible because the Bible is a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.” -Voddie Baucham
