First Baptist Church Lakeland
FBCL | J.O.Y. Group July 11th 2024
The FBC Lakeland JOY Club had its monthly meeting Thursday, July 11, 2024. After eating a potluck lunch, the group sang favorite hymns led by Bro. Robert and accompanied on the piano by Mimi. Dr. K gave an inspiring message on Knowing God’s Will.
Making jump ropes out of old t-shirts for Operation Christmas Child was the program for July. The brave ones of the group started cutting the donated shirts into strips and then processing the strips. Robert and Mimi demonstrated how to braid the t-shirt strips into jump ropes. Mistakes were made and much silliness enjoyed before the “braiders” got down to serious business.
Our resident “clean-up angels” did their thing and washed dishes, cleaned off tables and took care of preparing that side of the room for Sunday while others made jump ropes. We are blessed at Lakeland to have so many who step in and do what is needed without having to be asked. Thank you and know that you are much appreciated!
The braiders had such a good time that they asked to have another braiding session next month at the regular meeting time of second Thursday-August 8, 2024-from 12:30-3:30 pm. Anyone wanting to have a good time should plan to come in August. Braiders can braid, others can assist the braiders, cut strips, prep the strips by stretching or other jobs as needed.
